Plain Truth About Blessings and Woes

 Scripture: Jeremiah 17:5-10  • Psalm 1  • 1 Corinthians 15:12-20  • Luke 6:17-26

Consider the difference between Matthew's Sermon on the Mount, and Luke's stark Sermon on the Plain. Not "blessed are the poor in spirit," but "blessed are the poor." Not "blessed are those who hunger after righteousness," but blessed are those who are hungry. What is Luke's "Plain Truth," about blessings and woes? It may not be what we think. Read Debie Thomas' "Leveled."

  • Had enough? Feel like nothing you do is right? "I just can't take this. There's nothing I can do about it. It's hopeless. I'm not good enough.

Read Isaiah’s experience in encountering - seeing  the Almighty God; the frustration of the disciples who fished all night and caught nothing. What does Jesus say?

How can we deal with that which seems overwhelming, against all odds? With suffering, loss, and grief? Read The Rev. Whitney Rice's "The Deep Water."
